Rules

WNCJGA tournaments are played to "scratch" with no handicaps. Play is conducted in accordance with the USGA Rules of Golf and by the Association rules as stated in your handbook.

General Instructions:

  • Mark your ball with an identifiable mark prior to play.
  • Tell your playing partners what kind of ball you are playing.
  • First tee honors are listed on scorecard. After that, lowest score tees off.
  • Junior Varsity has a maximum of 8 strokes per hole on regulation courses, 6 strokes per hole on par 3 courses. If you have hit the 8 (or 6) strokes and your ball is not in the hole, please pick up and mark on score card with a circled 8 (or 6).
  • Your scorekeeper is there for verification only. Do not rely on them for score accuracy. You are responsible for reporting accurate scores. INTEGRITY! Be honest.
  • In case of rules questions, refer to your rule book. If you are unable to resolve the question among the golfers in your group, play a second ball and write down two scores for that hole. Notify the tournament director upon completion of play. All tournament director's decisions are final.
  • Ties for first place will be played off on the golf course, weather and course permitting.  Ties for 2nd thru 5th will be determined off the scorecard starting with the hardest hole.

Conduct:

Proper courtesy and etiquette is expected at all times from WNCJGA participants. Improper behavior will not be tolerated and may result in disqualification and/or suspension of membership.

Proper golf attire is required - shirts with collars, tennis shoes or soft spiked golf shoes. (No blue jeans or blue jean shorts, no cut-offs)

Rules of Play:

Play the ball down. (once you tee off you may not touch your ball with any part of your body or your equipment except to hit it or under a rule until you reach the putting green of the hole you are playing.)

Provisional Ball: If you are unsure if your ball has stayed in play after hitting it, or you are unsure you will be able to find it, play a provisional ball (a second ball). Declare your intention to play a provisional ball to your playing partners. Proceed to where your original ball may have landed. If you do not find your first ball within 5 minutes, your provisional ball becomes the ball in play with a 2 stroke penalty.

Always thank the golf professional at the course you have played. THIS IS A MUST!

Player of the Year:

Points are given for first through 5th place in each age division at each event for both JV and Varsity Divisions.  The breakdown is as follows:
1st Place     25 points
2nd Place    20 points
3rd Place     15 points
4th Place     10 points
5th Place       5 points
Player of the Year is determined by the most points accumulated from the best 9 finishes in all age divisions for both JV and Varsity.  The Player of the Year trophy is awarded after the end of the season tournament at Etowah Valley at the cook-out and awards ceremony.
